spainCeremony for the Donation of Lawrence Weiner’s FOREVER & A DAY to the City of Barcelona

The bench-sculpture FOREVER & A DAY by Lawrence Weiner, which was inaugurated in Barcelona in January 2013, provides a meeting point, an opportunity to reflect on the fight against AIDS, and a poetic statement about tolerance in general, and particularly the need to avoid excluding anybody from society in general. A year after it was installed at Mercat de Santa Caterina, a busy pedestrian area as specifically requested by the artist, the ArtAids Foundation decided to donate the work to the city of Barcelona, which has warmly embraced the foundation since 2008.

The ceremony to mark the donation of the work to the city was held on Tuesday 11 March at Plaça Joan Capri, Mercat Santa Caterina, with the presence of Jaume Ciurana, Deputy Mayor for Culture, Knowledge, Creativity and Innovation, and Han Nefkens, President of the ArtAids Foundation. This donation was made possible by Fundació Banc Sabadell, which has generously supported ArtAids since it began. The work was also produced with the essential collaboration of the Institut de Cultura and the Institut de Mercats at Barcelona City Council.
