ArtAids employs art in the fight against Aids. It invites leading artists to produce work dealing with Aids . Here you’ll find a list of artists, museums and institutions involved.

Apisak Sonjod

TH Apisak Sonjod is curator and director of Tadu Contemporary Art. He curated Thailand’s contribution to the 2007 Venice Biennale. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project.

Brian Curtin

TH Brian Curtin is an arts writer based in Bangkok. He lectures on the International Program in Architectural Design (INDA) at Chulalongkorn University. He contributed an essay to the catalogue of H+F Collection’s travelling exhibition So Close/So Far Away (2007-08). Curtin is the editor of the book that will appear in conjunction with the 2008 More to Love project.

Chattiya Nitpolprasert

TH Chattiya Nitpolprasert is a Bangkok-based curator whose work focuses on contemporary sociological issues. She received her MA in Cultural Management from Chulalongkorn University in 2005. In February 2008 she curated a group show entitled Paradise Engineering, scrutinising common mythologies in Thai society. She has recently worked as part of the curatorial team for Underlying, a travelling exhibition in Southeast Asia organised as part of the Mekong Art and Culture Project. Nitpolprasert is the curator of the 2008 More to Love project.

Els Swaab

NL Els Swaab is a member of the Board of ArtAids. Working as a lawyer at the Amsterdam office of Boekel de Nerée, Els Swaab currently holds the position of Member (Secretary) of the Supervisory Board of Directors of the Nederlandsche Bank N.V., Chair of the Complaints and Disputes Committee of Registered Experts (NIVRE) and Chair of the Raad voor Cultuur (the advisory board of the government on culture and media), among many other positions.

Erik van Ginkel

NL Erik van Ginkel is a member of the Board of ArtAids. Van Ginkel is managing director of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam.

Gerardo Peral

SP Gerardo Peral has a PhD in Law and a Masters degree in Corporate Legal Consulting from the IE Business School in Madrid. He was the coordinator and curator of the Carmen Coordina Godia collection (El Conventet). For ten years, he worked as Curator of the Rafael Tous Contemporary Art Collection. During the same period, he worked at Metrònom gallery as Managing Coordinator of Exhibitions, Public Liaison and Publications. For  three years, he was content coordinator for the LOOP Festival in Barcelona, as well as a lecturer in the Curating New Media Art Masters program at Mecad/esdi (Ramon Llull University, Barcelona). Starting in September 2008, Gerardo Peral is the coordinator of ArtAids Spain. He focuses on the organisation of the project From the Outside Looking In, which will be presented in Barcelona in 2009.

Han Nefkens

NL/ES Writer and art collector Han Nefkens is founder and president of ArtAids. Born in Rotterdam in 1954, he studied journalism in France and the USA. He lived in Mexico until 1987, working as a correspondent and radio journalist. He is the author of a novel (1995) and two collections of short pieces (2005 and 2008). In 2000, he began his collection of international contemporary art, the H+F Collection, a major part of which is given on long-term loan to museums within the Netherlands and abroad. Hilde Teerlinck

FR Hilde Teerlinck is an executive member of the Board of ArtAids. Teerlinck is the director of the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais in Dunkirk and the former director of the Centre Rhénan d’Art Contemporain (CRAC Alsace) in Altkirch. Together with Han Nefkens, Teerlinck initiated the Access for All project in 2004. She was closely involved in Leo Copers’ project for the UNAIDS building in 2006 and is a Member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project. www.fracnpdc.fr

Ink Kanchanawanich

TH Ink Kanchanawanich is an artist, writer and filmmaker based in Bangkok, where she co-founded the Kathmandu Gallery. She is a member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project.

Jacqueline van Tongeren

NL Jacqueline van Tongeren is a member of the Board of ArtAids. She is Director of Communications of the Center for Poverty-related Communicable Diseases (CPCD), Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, the PharmAccess Foundation and Health Insurance Fund and Liaison Officer to Professor Joep Lange. She has worked in the field of HIV/Aids since 1986, heading an HIV/Aids ward in the clinic, and in the out-patient clinic as coordinating research nurse. Now she coordinates many HIV/Aids- and health-related projects. She ran an art gallery in Amsterdam in the 1970s and 1980s.

Jasper van der Lugt

TH/NL Dr Jasper Van Der Lugt is a physician and clinical trials co-ordinator at HIV-NAT. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project

Joep Lange

NL Joep M.A. Lange, MD, PhD is a member of the Board of ArtAids. He is currently Professor of Medicine at the Academic Medical Center (AMC), University of Amsterdam, where he heads the Center for Poverty-related Communicable Diseases (CPCD). He also serves as Chairman of the PharmAccess Foundation and as Scientific Advisor to the Board of the Health Insurance Fund. Professor Lange has been involved in HIV research and treatment since 1983. From 2002 to 2004 he was President of the International Aids Society. Like Praphan Phanuphak, he is one of the co-directors of HIV-NAT.

Luckana Kunavichayanont

TH Luckana Kunavichayanont is both initiator and curator of Tadu Contemporary Art in Bangkok. She co-curated Thailand’s contribution to the 2003 Venice Biennale. She is a member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project.

Meta Knol

NL Meta Knol is curator of modern and contemporary art at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht. This museum houses a major loan from Han Nefkens’ H+F Collection. Meta Knol advised ArtAids on the Cover project.

Miquel Bardagil

ES Miquel Bardagil is a free-lance curator from Barcelona. He has curated exhibitions including Beautiful People (2007-09, Altkirch, Leeuwarden, Lleida, Prague), La Resta no és Silenci (2008, Barcelona), Mirades singulars (2003, Barcelona), Artifici (1998, Vic) and L’ombra de l’arquitecte (1996, Vic). He has contributed to journals including Papers d’Art (Girona), Transversal (Lleida), Ars Mediterrania (Barcelona) and L’Avenç (Barcelona). He is a founding member of H (Association for Contemporary Arts) in Vic. Miquel Bardagil is curator of the ArtAids project On the Outside Looking In, which is to be held in Barcelona in 2009.

Naweeya Tangsakul

TH Naweeya Tangsakul recently graduated from the Faculty of Art History at Silpakorn University in Bangkok. She started her career as a project coordinator at Gallery VER in Bangkok. Tangsakul is the assistant curator for the 2008 More to Love project.

Onno Schellekens

NL Onno Schellekens is a member of the Board of ArtAids. He is Managing Director of the PharmAccess Foundation. PharmAccess is a non-profit organisation providing medical, administrative and financial support to public and private healthcare providers and health insurers. He co-founded the Health Insurance Fund (HIF), which pioneers mechanisms for sustainable healthcare financing in resource-poor settings, and the Investment Fund for Health in Africa (IFHA).

Praphan Phanuphak

TH Praphan Phanuphak MD, Ph.D., is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. He heads the Thai Red Cross Aids Research Centre. Like Joep Lange, he is co-director of HIV-NAT. Professor Phanuphak has been involved in HIV research and treatment since the mid-1980s. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project.

Stef Van Bellingen

BE Stef Van Bellingen, based in Sint Niklaas (B), is an independent art curator and guest lecturer at several art schools in Belgium and the Netherlands. He is the artistic director of WARP (Waasland Art Projects), a non-profit organisation in Belgium operating as a contemporary art platform with lectures, exhibitions, portfolio days and a summer school. Stef van Bellingen is curator of ArtAids DAK’ART, a project planned for 2010.

Torsak Bunupuradah

TH Dr Torsak Bunupuradah is a physician and clinical trials co-ordinator at HIV-NAT. He is a member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project.

Tseshinee Chuenyam

TH Theshinee Chuenyam is a research nurse and until recently the international programme manager at HIV-NAT. She is now Head of Clinical and Office Operation of Asia Pacific IATEC CRO Co., Ltd. She is a member of the Board of Advisors for the 2008 More to Love project.
